Delta Heritage Festival Saturday
The annual Delta Harvest Festival is this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Delta.
The Old Stone Mill will be open to the public for tours and will be hosting their Bread Baking Contest at 11 a.m. Details can be found at www.deltamill.org.
Chris Wooding, their resident Miller will be displaying a grinding demonstration at 1 p.m. and fresh red fife wheat flour will be for sale.
The Old Town Hall will host a used book sale, a project sponsored by the Delta Mill Society and Rideau Lakes Public Library.
There will also be a Harvest Table and if anyone in the community would like to donate preserves or baked goods it would be appreciated. Items can be delivered to the hall any time after 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
Hot dogs and drinks will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a canteen inside the hall and place to sit down. Do Delta Bucket Hats and Caps, Oliver the Otter books along with free Take and Make Kits for Children will also be for sale, sponsored by Rideau Lakes Public Library.
This year, a special event will be held at the Mill Drive Shed which was recently converted to a Blacksmith Shop. The grand opening will include a Hammer In.
On the Fair Grounds the Delta Agricultural Society will be hosting a car show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a $5 entry fee. Jeff Code and Silver Wings will be performing at the same time on the main stage. At the Fair Hall there will be craft vendors set up from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no charge to get onto the grounds.
Other activities include a yard sale at St Paul’s Community Centre, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Fire Hall Museum will be open, and they welcome vendors and farmers market to set up along King Street and in village parks at no charge – you will just need to bring your own tables and tents.
At the Russell Gazebo by the dam there will be local musical entertainment from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.; weather permitting; otherwise, they will be set up inside the Old Stone Mill.
Delta Legion Branch 207 is hosting a chicken barbecue from 4 to 6 p.m. with pre-orders only by contacting Pat Phillips at 613-928-2712 or on Facebook. Cost is $20 per person for ½ chicken, two salads, dinner roll and dessert. Limited indoor dining and takeout will be available. Deadline for pre-orders is Sep 20.
The Delta & Area CEC are hosting a Harvest Decorating Contest and invite the community to participate in decorating their properties with judging Fri., Sept. 23. All properties within the village limits will be judged so no need to register.
